Vic's Birthday 2008
We
decided to go to the Whitby for the day as we both love
it there and can always find something new of interest.

Opposite
the train station in Scarborough where we caught the bus
to Whitby

Vic outside
the museum--it closes on Mondays unfortunately

Unusual
Columbine--I must look for one of those for the garden

Beautiful
horse chestnut trees in the museum park-red one as well
as white

One for the
fungus enthusiasts

Back Street
in Whitby

Cottages
built in 1669-refurbished but still with character

Beautiful
rigging against the blue sky

'Elizabeth'
the only steam bus in the UK that can carry passenger
there is another one somewhere but it isn't road worthy

On the
steam bus tip-the drivers wife was the stoker and worked
all the time keeping the boiler full of coal

Showing the
rock of the coastline at Whitby-very different from the
type of rock down the coast in Bridlington

Abbey and
church on the cliff top

A rough
sea-the sound was deafening at times

Not so
rough at the other side of the bay

The abbey
on the cliff from above the harbour
We didn't
go to the abbey and the church this time as it does
involve climbing up 199 steps or taking the open top
bus. We did it last time we were there and the steps
seemed horrendous that day as it was belting down with
rain at the time we came back down. Nice visitors centre
there with lots to see so somewhere dry if it is bad
weather when you get to the top.
Hope you
enjoyed the trip to Whitby with us.
