Vic's Birthday May 19th 2010

Vic chose a trip to York for his birthday so we caught the early train and got there about half past 10. Fitted in loads of things during the day and enjoyed every minute of it before coming home tired but happy.

These are the cards that Vic got for his birthday and the ones with names are from members of Crafty Us on YUKU which is a craft group that we both belong to. The other cards are from family members.

A nice start to the day before we set off for the station

Coffee and cake outside the Art Gallery

Fountains outside the Art Gallery and the pigeons were having a bath in the water

The boat getting ready for us to go onboard

Almost empty the top deck and totally empty on the bottom deck which had a bar and coffee etc.

The trees at the side of the river are amazing and have lived through many very high floods over the years

A cafe on the river

The building behind the boat was bombed in the last war and you can see the smoke marks where the bottom storey set on fire-they were to the bottom of the building but flooding over the years has cleaned the stone so there is a line almost at the top of the windows on the bottom floor.

Irish pub for lunch-very nice meal

The market place

A lovely dress shop in the Shambles-a family firm dating back many years

This shrine is dedicated to the saint whose name was taken by the grammar school where Vic's sister was educated in Tong in Yorkshire

Some interesting places for cafes in York

We walked part of the walk that is above the city and has some great views-a bit scary in parts I thought.

The bar where we came down from the wall. The bars are places where you can enter the city centre on foot and would have been heavily guarded in Roman times-this one is quite near to the railway station

Ready for home at York Station-me waving in the distance-you need good eyes to see me. Our train was waiting at platform one which is just out of view.

A great day out and a memorable birthday yet again
