Speeton Cliffs to Filey

It was the best weather day of the week according to the forecast so we decided to do a walk from Speeton Cliffs to Filey. We have done a similar walk at a different time of year when there were hardly any people about but it is so nice to see that the good old British seaside holiday is alive and kicking and that everyone does just the same as we did as kids. Plenty of holes being dug and sandcastles built. Ice creams eaten and donkeys being ridden. People in the sea and paddling pool and best of all the beach huts being used as they always were.

To get to the cliffs we went by bus to Reighton Gap then down to the beach and turned right to walk along to the cliffs. It is a very interesting bit of coastline for lots of reasons and and a place that we had been meaning to visit for a while.

Lots of seabirds around the cliffs

The place in the far distance is where we are heading for

A wellie in the sand--wonder what tale that could tell?

My collection of pebbles. Every pebble on this part of the coast seems to have things embedded from the past or is sparkling with Quartz. Didn't bring any home as they were too heavy.

I thought these were huge creatures coming out of the sea but they are old rocks called the King and Queen-thank goodness

A well earned rest and a bottle of water

These are fortification from the war that have fallen  off the cliff with the erosion over the years

Interesting pattern of the coastal erosion-it looked amazing in real life

We had an all day breakfast and 2 cups of coffee here and I can recommend the cooking-well worth a detour and climb up to the cafe from the beach

View from the cafe

Arriving at Filey and a new plaque telling of the first flight which took place there

Oh I do like to be beside the Seaside

Make sure you keep to your own patch

The old green rucksack girl

The yellow house was brought back to life about 10 years ago as it had fallen into disrepair. What a fabulous place it is now with glorious views over the bay

This was a clever wire sculpture

The paddling pool built out into the beach-the sea had only just gone out so this was a good place to paddle while the sand dried up. The sky looks angry but it was lovely and warm with just a nice gentle breeze and the clouds passed by quite quickly and the blue sky and sunshine soon returned. A really good walk and I hope you all enjoyed it with us.
