Skegness September 2011

We found a lovely place to stay in a holiday apartment which was near to the seafront, the station and the town centre all really great for us.

Here are some of the photographs from the holiday-just a selection as there were 150 in total. Many were of beach huts and I will be making a whole new section on my website for beach huts in all their glory. Also quite a few were of the illuminations in Skegness -the pictures weren't up to the usual standard which could well have been something to do with the camera man having a few lagers and glasses of wine on that night. He made up for it by taking a video of some of the lights the next night before we went to the pub. The link for the video is here if you would like to see it.

There is also a video of some of the journey we had on a little sand train-very bracing so hang onto your hats if you go here to join us on the train.

Very early morning a few minutes from the apartment

This is the mascot of Skegness-the Jolly Fisherman

Lots of windmills in the sea along this coastline

Walking along the beach to Ingomells -quite a long walk from Skegness

We walked from the bus station at Chapel St Leonard's to Chapel Point and this was a lovely scene along the way

A lovely beach here at Chapel Point with beautiful secluded beach huts and a great little cafe

Vic on the beach at Chapel Point-just us and a few birds at that time

More windmills and great effects with the sun on the watery sand

These are our neighbours who live across the road from us and had just arrived in Skegness for a few days so we all had a meal and a long sit in the sun on the pub balcony

There were some beautiful ladies posing as statues like the ones in Barcelona. How they stayed there in the hot sun all day I can't imagine but they did. This one was so lovely and wanted to hold my hand and blew Vic a kiss.

There are lots of beautiful gardens along the seafront and this one was very near to where we were staying-we were going to go on a pedallo but my poor knee rebelled lol

Near to where we were staying is the model village and I love those almost as much as I love beach huts.

This was where we went for our main meals each day as the food was terrific with lots of choice

 and all at reasonable prices

Camera man a bit wobbly lol

Beach huts at Mablethorpe--there are hundreds along this stretch of coastline-just around the corner at the end it is beach hut heaven but we didn't get that far cause there is a lovely park before you get to them

The park behind the beach huts a lovely place to walk around and have a snack at the cafe

The little sand train at Mablethorpe which goes along the beach to the Seal Santuary-we didn't go there this time as we have been twice in the past but we did do the round trip on the train. It is a great way to travel especially on a hot day like it was when we were there.

Established in 1952 and still going strong

We set off very early to walk to Gilbraltar Point. We had been 20 years ago when we had a car and it didn't seem very far at all in those days. How wrong can you be cause on a very hot day it did seem a very long way but it was well worth it as the place is stunning if you like nature at all. They have made paths that are accessible to people in wheel chairs or on scooters but at times some of the paths are under water as the marsh is tidal in parts.

We have lots of plant pictures as well but I haven't put many of them on this page-loved this one though so had to include it on here

This picture and many of the following were taken from hides on the reserve. The views can't be seen from anywhere else except the hide windows and the coolness in the hides was so welcome for us on this exceptionally hot day

Off to look what is next-this is the path down from the first hide

Vic has more than one shirt-honest he has lol. This one was easy to wash and hang out on the line and it doesn't need ironing so he kept putting it back on

Pictures from the next hide

Back on the path again and wondering what will be next-well it was the Visitors Centre with a great cafe for snacks and meals. There are walks from there but the tide had taken over the route we had hoped to walk back along so we came back home almost the same way as we went and my it was hot that day.

The flooded marshland that some of the paths go over--even the road on the right corner was flooded just past this point and was only passable at low tide.

Another day and we walked to Church farm museum. This is a lovely place to visit and on the day we were there it was a quiet day but often they have lots of school parties visiting and demonstrations. I bought a bag of pears from the orchard and they were delicious also there is a coffee shop with lovely food and drink-well there always is where ever we go lol.

You can go round the old Farm house and it has lots of lovely old rooms inside and also the thatched cottage as well. We have lots of photographs inside the buildings but I would need to make another page for those.

My new friend-he kept falling over

This barn has been moved to the museum piece by piece and was amazing

Vic's new shovel

The roof of the barn

The summer house was in the orchard and that had been moved here very carefully on a crane.

A life sized horse sculpture

This is the park that is just off the seafront in Skegness and leads to the town centre. The old station used to be in the park and the station building is the one you can see at the back. It was a nice place for a snack the last time we stayed in Skegness but now it is just closed up and beginning to decay--what a shame

The park has lots of paths and places to sit in the shade of the great tree. We found a conker from this very stately and old horse chestnut tree.

That's it Folks. Hope you enjoyed the holiday with us.
