Scarborough to Filey along part of the Cleveland Way

This was a long walk when you add on the miles from our house to Bridlington Station and back home again and the distance from Scarborough station to where we joined the walk. It was also difficult in parts because of the many ravines to go down and up and also the detours because of the coastal erosion. The wind was strong North Easterly and cold. Having painted a bleak picture of the walk it was amazing really and a great way to exercise as well as take in the beauty of our English coastline.

Getting organised at the start of the walk

At start of the walk looking back towards Scarborough

Vic pleased that we have found the right path

On our way

In the very distance is Filey Brigg where you will have been with us before and where we are aiming for on this walk

The bottom of a ravine that goes to somewhere we are going to go back and explore another day

Up from the ravine-the chap at the top in the trees was really nice and had walked along a lot of the Cleveland way that day-we kept catching up with him and then he with us as we took different detours to avoid the coastal erosion

This shows what happened a couple of years ago. There is a beautiful small estate of bungalows just to the right of the picture and some of them went over the cliff. Still the remains of some of the garden fences and gates but nature has taken over. The path used to be along the edge of the cliff but now it has been diverted and you have to go quite a way inland.

This was taken from a small wood at the side of the old road as there still wasn't a path at the cliff edge because a lot of it had eroded.

Looking back at Scarborough again now we are back on the coastal path

Hope this path is still here next time we go along this route-it was very dry with huge cracks appearing in parts of it

Bet that piece on the end won't be there for much longer

Looking back at Scarborough again-not sure what that was that had gone over the cliff

Very high up here but it looks like a nice bay to go when it is a sunny day so must remember that one

Another bay and a lot of erosion that has settled on the sand

This was the worst erosion we saw a lot of the cliff top had gone

Looking back again--the beautiful green grass is the golf course

Very windy here but styles over into the field on the right, so we hopped over one and had a picnic lunch. The caravan site is now called the Blue Dolphin and owned by Haven but Vic said years ago he thinks it was called Dennis's so maybe some of you have been there.

The cliffs are full of nesting birds and the noise is horrendous when you get nearer.

Looking back to Scarborough again-it seems a long way off now

We left the Cleveland way and took this beautiful path to take us into Filey

A well earned ice lolly !

Filey Station-waiting for the train to Bridlington. When we got there it was just a mile and a half and then we were home.

Hope you enjoyed the walk.
