Walk around Hunmanby and the Miniature Train

We caught the early train and had a walk all planned out so all we needed to do was follow the map. First stop was the centre of Hunmanby and make sure we knew which way we were going. After about a mile we realised we weren't going in the right direction so took a short cut along a road that led us back almost to the train station. We walked to the centre of the village again-looked at the map then switched to plan B.

This was to try to find a miniature railway that was marked on the map. We walked for a couple of miles along paths and fields then realised we were lost again. Nice to know we had a flask of coffee to hand so we stopped and sat on a stile to have a drink and a think. Once again we turned back then found a path that we thought must be the one to the miniature railway.

Wrong again as we eventually arrived at the road where the bus to Scarborough goes along from Hunmanby. By now we had had enough and decided to just find our way back to the station and go home. For some reason I looked behind me and saw a sign in the distance for the miniature railway lol. It ended up being a brilliant day out though we did get lost just once on the way back to the station to go home even though the chaps we met had told us the right way to go.

Lovely garden in Hunmanby village centre funded by the lottery I think.

Hunmanby Church

One of the pubs in the village--there are no public toilets anywhere in Hunmanby and everything seems to close on Thursdays which is when we were there so not even a tea room open in the morning.

Vic on the little train. It costs £1 for the first trip and it goes quite a way around different things--then any trip after that on the day is 50p

Coming out of the tunnel

A view of the station from the train

Around the little lake-fishing is £5 per day and it looks well stocked

A big shark statue which was surrounded by ducks

Old weighing scales

Some of the old adverts on the station

Me and the driver putting the world to rights--there was another man as well sat on the seat in front of us--Vic was off taking pics

These baby swallows has just flown the nest that day and didn't seem keen on going very far

These baby swallows were due to flee the nest that was in the roof of the station but they didn't seem to want to leave

Not sure what this is at all- we came across it on our way from the little railway and it was on an island where three roads joined-the shade was lovely cause it was so hot and we ate our sandwiches here.

Me in the shade of the rowan tree

This is part of the Hunmanby follies but inside is now holiday cottages so we didn't go in.

Waiting for the 'real' train home.

The old waiting room is now a holiday cottage and it looks really nice

Some baby starlings that had just come out of their nest and a flock of starlings were trying to get them to fly--the noise was terrific but the little birds weren't going anywhere.

Hope you enjoyed the day out.
