Bridlington round walk taking in Boynton, Woldgate and Carnaby

This is a similar route to the one we did a few weeks ago but we did it in reverse this time and included an extra place. It is somewhere called Fish Ponds Wood that Vic has seen the entrance to when he had been on bikes rides along the Woldgate. What we didn't know is that it is a private place for fishermen only-I found that out on line when we got home- but on the way out a four track stopped and a large man wasn't too pleased with us for having been in the place at all, I think he may have been a warden or something. It does seem a shame that somewhere so beautiful should be just for fishermen - only two of them that we saw and a man made one lol. They didn't see us at all and looked fast asleep in their chairs just dangling rods. It only costs £5 per day to fish there but you need a car to get to the place with fishing equipment and can't just walk around as we did if you pay to fish. We apologised for trespassing and we won't be going again but we did get lots of beautiful pictures and heard the most incredible bird sounds and saw some wonderful wild flowers and trees.

We walked up from Morrisons to the hospital corner which is where we took this picture looking back to the Priory and the sports centre-the hospital is on the right just out of view but is little used now even though it is a lovely, newish building..

Vic at the corner all ready to go

A huge field of sunflowers at one of the farms on Eastfield Road

The long path that leads to Boynton church-quite overgrown this time and dark with the trees in full leaf

Lots of wild flowers along the way

Almost at the end of the path

Two horses in the field in front of Boynton Hall - they came to the gate to see us

A well earned rest in the shade of the churchyard tree and we had a sandwich and coffee as well to lighten Vic's rucksack

A nice view into the grounds of Boynton Hall

The next few pictures are for Noel. He has found us a new interest on our walks. There are hundreds of pieces of old farm machinery rotting in the undergrowth all over the place and we haven't a clue what any of it is. Some of the pieces are huge and would fetch a fortune as scrap metal I'm sure.

Right Noel what are these then ? lol If he tells us I will come back and post the results here

A view as you walk up to the wood

On the farm road in the wood--me with the map holder as Vic doesn't like wearing it. It is terrific for keeping the map handy and clean.

It was about here that we realised we had missed a turning somewhere and might not get to see the Fish Ponds Wood

The trees here are very tall and very old I imagine

Finally got to the Woldgate which is a Roman road that goes from Bridlington to Driffield and beyond -very straight and these days, very busy. We would have gone straight across here and gone home the way we knew but we still hadn't given up hope of seeing Fish Ponds Wood so we went to the left and down the hill in the distance.

First picture of the forbidden place--shh don't tell anyone you have seen it.

Wonder what is down this path she says innocently-not knowing she shouldn't have been there at all!

Still no fishermen this one is a scarecrow--well it didn't scare me cause I didn't know I shouldn't be there at the time

Vic with an interesting tree

I was stood on one of the places that are for fishermen to set-up their chairs and stuff--not a fisherman in sight though-isn't it just beautiful and so peaceful.

Back on the Woldgate and I found somewhere to rest me weary feet and legs for a minute.

We came back home along a different path that brought us nearer to the temple folly that we took pictures of from a distance before. It looked a lot more interesting from far away and I was wishing it was renovated and made into something again.

Didn't take any more pictures after that as we went to The Ferns for some lager and a burger and chips. Then we had a few more miles before we got home. It was a difficult few miles as one of the fields on the map which we had to go through, was over grown with huge thistles and ripe rape seed which made the path extremely difficult for tired short legs like mine.

A great walk with a few blips but nice to know that we have seen a secret place and got piccies to share with everyone
