Ulrome to Hornsea

We wanted to do the second half of the walk we started from Bridlington to Hornsea so we set off on a very early bus to Ulrome. By the time we got there the tide should have been far enough out for us to walk along the beach but it was still coming right up to the eroded cliffs. We walked along the almost destroyed road to Skipsea but the sea was still too far in and the cliff paths had long since gone over the edge. It seemed like the only thing we could do was go back home and hope to be able to do it all another day. Not ones for walking the same way twice we found a path that went through a  wood that had been planted in 2002 and was now a nice place to walk through back to Ulrome. When we got there the tempatation to do the walk we had planned was too great so we set off on the narrow strip of beach to walk from Ulrome to Hornsea. What an adventure it turned out to be with the beach being unpassable in parts because of the fallen cliffs and the cliff paths and roads having gone over the edge as well. It was a case of just keep going and finding a way to get there. A very long journey and still well over a mile to walk when we finally got off the bus home .

Most of this house has gone over the cliff but the couple still live in the front bit that is left--rather them than me.

A nice tree in the new wood

Another nice tree

Lots of nice wild flowers for the insects

The rough sea and it was a calm day

Some of the sea defences that are down on the beach and blocking the way until the tide is well out-we climbed over

On top of the new cliff face you can see the end of what was the road

The sand is taking over again where the soil had eroded

The sand is now littered with pebbles that have filtered out of the soil that has fallen down

Looking back towards Bridlingtom and Flamborough in the distance

Fascinating new structures formed by the soil and sea pounding it

Dinner time

Coffee time

More strange formations

Danger road ahead gone it should read--at least 2 rows of caravans have been moved and you can see the crack in the road that says 2 more will be gone by the time we go again I reckon.

This caravan was so near the edge I wouldn't have wanted to stay in it at all and the next few were even nearer

There was supposed to be a path along this cliff edge but it had gone

A little bit of the path that was left or had been made recently since the farmer gathered in the corn

Almost there as we make it to the north end of Hornsea promenade-a welcome sight for sure

A bit further along and looking back from where we came

Journey's end and heading to the cafe for a cuppa and a muffin before the bus arrives to take us near to home.

We ended up walking about 14 miles altogether and were pleasantly tired when we got home.

A sad walk really because of all the erosion and the places that are going over the edge but some really nice things as well along the way.

Hope you found it interesting
