| Not far from where we live is a place called Flamborough Head-we
can get the bus to there from outside our house and it only takes
about 20 minutes. It is a really magical place and at this time of
year the magic is enhanced by the arrival of thousands of seabirds.
They cling to the cliffs and lay eggs and rear their young which
always amazes me. The bird that I love to see is the puffin and this year, 2005, there are lots of them. They make burrows or find a ready made crack in the rocks to lay their eggs. It isn't easy to get close to them as the cliffs are unsafe with the cracks at the edges and you have to hang over to take pictures or get a good view. We did have binoculars so could see quite clearly from where we were. These are some of the pictures we took today at our picnic spot 26th May 2005. The noise was very loud as the seagulls and kittiwakes compete to make the most sound and it reverberates around the cove bouncing off the cliffs.
There was another puffin in the crack to the left. We thought it may be the female sitting on the eggs
These two were quite close to us and seemed to be looking for a place to burrow or maybe find a burrow they dug last year.
All the white dots on the cliffs are birds. It is difficult to imagine how they can mate and bring up 2 or 3 young birds in such cramped conditions
This must have been the more select area cause they weren't as over crowded at this part of the cove
